Philosophy

Access II activities are based on three guiding principles:

Choice: Many people with disabilities may not be aware of options that might allow them to live more independently.  Access II educates consumers about available opportunities, and helps the consumer set new goals and priorities.  Access II works with community leaders to expand the available range and choices through community advocacy.

Control: Once consumers have chosen the goals they wish to pursue, Access II will assist in a variety of ways to help individuals in accomplishing the objectives. In this way, the consumers are in control, deciding what needs to be done and how to achieve it. Advocacy initiatives will be consumer driven.

Change: Access II will be working with communities to encourage the removal of institutional and attitudinal barriers, by providing educational materials and personal advocacy efforts; thus promoting changes that create inclusion for people of all abilities.
